GCE, Salem

Government College of Engineering(GCE), Salem was started in the year 1966. Since its inception, the college has striven incessantly to provide quality education and to produce skilled knowledgeable engineers.It is at present affiliated to Anna University, Coimbatore.

Government College of Engineering, Salem - 11, was started during the Third Five Year plan in the year 1966 and is located on a beautiful 162 hectares site surrounded by hills. This was then the third government engineering institution in Tamil Nadu.

Results

o  50 University Rank Holders in the year 2010-11 under Anna University,Coimbatore.
o  100% result for Civil, CSE, ECE ,Mechanical, Mettalurgy and 98% result for EEE in the year 2011-12 under Autonomous Status.

Computing Facility

The facilities comprise 1500 networked PCs. A 2 – km fiber optic cable has been laid to interlink department computer centres, hostels, staff quarters and guest house. All latest software are made available in all the departments. Facility of open – access to 22 Mbps internet at every department is part of an extensive information network connecting in the campus. Wi-Fi facility has been provided in the girls hostel and also in various departments.

Digital Library

Our Digital Library is well constructed in a plinth area of 942.28 sq.m. It has a video conferencing hall and it nourishes the emerging Engineers with collective updates of recent technologies. The students can browse, download and share the documents and e-journals.

Communication Skills Laboratory

An open – access language laboratory, equipped with audio interactive and multimedia enhanced learning packages, is available to hone communication skills for English. Also it is facilitated with LCD screen, Projector and an LCD TV in an air-conditioned, interior decorated class room.

Laboratories

Our College has well Equipped Laboratories for practical theories for all six disciplines of Engineering and Science disciplines.

Interactive Seminar Halls

 

Each Departments have air-conditioned seminar halls with interactive borards and LCD's.

Accommodation

Our students are supported with good board and lodging facilities. Boys hostel totally of six buildings with uninterrupted water facility and power supply.Individual mess hall for each year students. Girls hostel is located in a closed compound and specially provided tight security. Girls hostel is provided with the sophisticated solar water heater facility.

Sports

Vast playground for Hockey, Foot ball, Cricket. Individual courts of standard metrics available for Volley ball, Basket ball, Hand ball, shuttle, kabadi and Kho-Kho. Athletes are trained in special tracks.

Extracurricular Activities

Social awareness and service mind of the students are motivated through NSS (National Service Scheme) which itself divided into four units. Students serve the nearby villages every year through Special camps. 
Patriotism and discipline is kindled by NCC (National Cadet Corps) which has two wings.

2)Army wing
NCC cadets are trained with special officers. Rudimentary weapon training is given during the infantry camps.

General Amenities

Separate Gymnasiums are available for Boys and Girls in their hostels. A well equipped Planetarium is situated inside the Campus.
